Officials Development

Officials such as coaches play an important role in the success of every table tennis champion

Frank Karika was the coach for the BC Junior Development squad when I was a teen competing in the 70's. He cared, he tried hard, and I benefitted greatly as a player and as a developing young adult from his influence

Providing development opportunities officials and coaches

With the recent passing of Frank, Mike, Danny, and Chandra, the BCTTA lost, in just under two years, a generation of venerable coaches and officials. Hence, we recognize the importance and urgency of developing the next generation of officials. These include coaches, umpires and referees and, in collaboration with Table Tennis Canada, we make training these officials a key priority. After all, this organizational branch of the sport is the key to helping table tennis in BC grow and thrive. Without officials there’d be no player development, no efficiently run tournaments, and no promotion of table tennis at a grass roots level.

Throughout the year BCTTA and TTCanada, offer development opportunities for officials. Aspiring coaches, umpires and referees can register for workshops, and courses (both online and in person) designed to prepare candidates for exams.

If you have any questions about any of the development programs we offer for coaches, referees and umpires, please contact the BCTTA Officials Director.

Congratulations....

Big congrats to Mr. Anson Lam, who was the TTCAN year of 2023 Volunteer recipient.

Anson has been involved as a volunteer in the sport of table tennis since he was at high school and until the present. He is a role model for the younger generation who has a great passion and enthusiasm in our sport and contributing a lot in helping others.

Well done and keep it up.
